Some of our Autumn Term Activities in Class 5
The theme of our topic this half term is
‘Home in on Mytholmroyd’.
We are looking at how our area has changed over time, what life was like here in Victorian times and what the geographical features of our area are. A good website for local pictures from the past is www.mytholmroyd.net
One activity is to compare two old photos of the centre of Mytholmroyd with how it looks today. They are very interesting to see side by side. This was taken the day we went along to compare. Look the old photos up…..

Gold Pieces is the title of a book written by Phyllis Bentley, we will read. It is a story based on the real history of the Cragg Vale coiners and gives lots of information about what life would have been like over 200 years ago when many people were weavers.
We will look at census records and learn a bit about local families. A walk along to Hebden Bridge to see where some of these families lived and to find out about some of the history of Hebden Bridge is also planned. Information to follow…
Lots of interesting things to come!
Then, of course, we will be learning to play the violin, swimming every week, learning to speak French, being active in PE. When will there be time for the 3Rs!!!
