Class 4 website update-May 2010.

Science Explorers!

This half term, we are all being scientists! We are studying two areas of science. With Mrs Oddy, we are looking at Electrical Circuits and Conductors. With Mrs Knapper, we are looking at Solids, Liquids and how they can be separated. We have already started doing some hands on investigations, which we are really enjoying.

We are going to complete several pieces of computer based art work in which we shall use many different tools and skills. Our design technology work is based around making light up quiz games. We are designing the games and then playing each others games. We are working hard and having fun at the same time!

In Literacy, we shall be looking at poetry and writing our own poems both by hand and on the computer. We will look at explanation texts and will also be reading and writing stories raising dilemmas.

We have had a visit from the Road Safety team and had the chance to take part in activities relating to keeping ourselves safe and making ‘greener’, more environmentally friendly choices about how we travel.

                                     Class 4 website update-March 2010.

Art Attack!!

We are amid our new topic, Art Attack!!, at the moment. The main part of our topic is the preparation of our Easter production, which will be the fantastic musical – The Peace Child. We are working really hard on what promises to be a super show, with wonderful songs, colourful characters and plenty of drama. Do come along to watch us at St Michael’s Church Hall on either Tuesday 23rd March or Wednesday 24th March for what we are sure will be a night of excellent entertainment!

We are also studying the works and styles of different artists and cultures. In particular we will look at the work of the French artist Georges Seurat and study the style of Pointillism. Children will then create their own art work using dots of colour to build up images.

In mathematics the class are all still busy building up skills and speed in the times tables, as well as developing their fractions knowledge. There are still a few children who are really struggling to tell the time on analogue clocks and practise at home would be very beneficial.

In relation to the production, could we remind parents that permission slips need to be returned as soon as possible, with both days ticked unless absolutely unavoidable prior commitments prevent that. We also need costumes sending in, clearly labelled, so that we can organise our equipment!

                                     Class 4 website update-January 2010.

Wishing everyone a rather belated -Happy New Year!

We hope that you all had a really good break and that you are finding your calendars useful. As you can see the class had great fun in our last topic and did some fantastic work. They were all very enthusiastic!

This half term our topic is called All Wrapped Up. It is about Ancient Egypt and once again the class are really fired up and interested in the subject. Any research at home into life in Ancient Egypt will prove really useful in class. We are particularly looking forward to completing many varied and exciting art and craft activities.

In mathematics the class are all still busy building up skills and speed in the times tables. We have also been looking at time and have found that telling the time accurately is still a problem for some children. Any help at home here would be much appreciated. Please could you also make note that there are further open evenings this half term on 10th and 11th February.

Hopefully our last newsletter proved useful and informative. In classes 3 and 4 we are about to start preparing for our yearly concert extravaganza, so you can expect to have a very musical household with tunes you will no doubt know long before coming to watch the show! The show is scheduled to be held on 24th and 25th March.

Bankfield Museum

On Thursday 1st October class 4 visited the museum. We were involved in a fantastic workshop entitled Churchill’s Children to link with our topic the Home Front.

The children had a great day. They were all very well behave and took part in all the activities with enthusiasm. They learnt a great deal and had fun doing so. Here are just a few of the photographs.

There are many more photographs on display in school. We think you must agree that these photographs really reflect what a great time the children had!

Updated 17th SEPTEMBER 2009!

                                   Welcome to Class 4!

Welcome to a new school year and a new class. Class 4 is taught on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays by Mrs Oddy and on Thursdays and Fridays by Mrs Knapper.

The children have settled in really well and are very excited by our topic. Our topic this half term is The Home Front. We started by looking at the children’s own home lives - and we have to say that their work has made really interesting reading! The whole class have produced some lovely work and each child already has a piece of written work and a picture on display. The classroom is already looking really colourful.

We have now moved on to look at life for children in World War Two. We have arranged a trip to tie in with our topic. This will take place on 1st October and will involve a visit to Bankfield Museum to take part in an activity day entitled Churchill’s Children. Children will dress up and take part in many different activities based around the war years. Further details of the trip will follow are on the way.

Can you help?

Children have already been inspired by our activities and have begun bringing in artefact from the war. Although we have a collection of artefacts in school it is extremely interesting for children to see and discuss more personal mementoes and stories, so any help in this respect would be greatly appreciated. Any items sent into school will be treated with care and respect.

It would also be really useful and informative if we could invite someone local into school to talk to the class about their personal experiences in the war. If you know anyone who could visit, please let us know.

Children all have a reading book and a library book. Reading books should be returned to school daily and library books can be changed weekly. We do appreciate all your help listening to the children read daily. Thank you.

Children also have a Homework Book and a Spellings and Times Tables book. Tables and spellings for our weekly tests are in these books. Children are tested on Wednesdays. Please could you ensure that their Spellings and Times Tables books are returned on Wednesdays so that they have them to record new test information in.

Finally, as you can see, we are all having lots of fun in school and working together really well!
