Soily Shocks with Class 3!
How many different types of soil can you find?
What do you think you will find in compost and will that help you investigate what it is made of?
We have been discovering all sorts of creepy crawlies in different types of soil in class 3. We looked at bought compost, compost from our nature trail, from a compost bin and lots of other soils which we have found are not so good for plants. We didn’t just find leaves and cones but worms, bugs and spiders! We did put them straight back outside once we had finished looking at them.

Totem Poles
We are designing totem poles and thinking about where they would look amazing. We have discovered that totem poles tell the story of a family or tribe and that many of the designs represent specific animals such as the large teeth face always means a beaver and the tongue hanging out means a bear. Look out for these designs on our poles!

Our poles are not made of red cedar trees but plastic bottles, papier-mache and paint. They are not quite finished yet so watch this space!

Year 3 Food Technology Day.
Visiting our class was great fun and very tasty last week when we spent a whole day making scrumptious things to eat, and then of course eating them!

We made our own scone based pizza then decided on healthy options to make them really tasty. Our fresh fruit salad was delicious and we finished off with a little less than healthy chocolate crispy bun which we must thank Mrs Burdaky for.

Were going on a rock hunt!
Yesterday we went on a stone and rock hunt around school and along the tow path. We were trying to find out how many different types of stone and rocks we could find and what they were used for. We saw really old blackened stone used to build old barns and some very clean and sandy coloured stone on the new homes at Longfellow Court. Our own school is built of stone with a stone slate roof and parts of stone used to make our playground surface and brick vents in the walls.

Do you know how the stone on the edge of the bridge was worn away?

How many different uses of rocks and stones can you spot?
