Class Newsletter- updated 5th June
A big welcome back to everybody! We’ve started our new topic off with a flying start, it’s all about transport and pushes and pulls. There is already a garage role-play area in our classroom and all the construction and small world has a transport or push and pull theme to it. On Monday we created some questions that we’d like to find the answers to during our topic, such as,
We also watched a video about a petrol station and a workshop. Oliver asked if I would put it on the website, so here is the link!
On Thursday we visited the petrol station next door to school, Janet the manager showed us around. She showed us where the tankers deliver the petrol to. There are three big grids in the ground and 20 foot down there are tanks for the petrol to be stored in. We saw where the Ultimate unleaded petrol was kept, the tanks for unleaded petrol, ultimate unleaded petrol and diesel hold 9000 litres each!
We looked at the machines that people use to put air or water into their car. The water is free but you have to pay for the air!
The children also watched a man washing his car with the jet wash. He was very cheeky because he tried to splash us!
When we came back to school we looked at all of the teachers’ cars in the car park and had a close look at the badges on the fronts of the cars to see which company had built them. That helped us choose our new table names; BMW, Mercedes, Ford and Audi.
We had a lovely morning and are all really enjoying this topic!
Eat more fruit!
Class 1 have been working with Mrs Topping recently doing a project all about fruit. Mrs Topping brought in some fruit for us all to have a look at. We cut it open and had a really good look at the seeds inside each fruit and drew very carefully what we could see. We also had a chance to taste the fruit and decide which we liked best. Some children were very surprised to find out that they liked the kiwi and pomegranate as they had never tried them before. We made a pictogram of our favourite fruit which is displayed on our classroom wall.

After the drawing and tasting session the children designed their very own fruit salad and on Wednesday they got the chance to make their own recipe. The children had lots of fun carefully cutting up their fruit and eating it!

Thank you Mrs Topping for working with us! We had lots of fun and I’m sure we will all eat more fruit in future!
Money probems
We’ve also been working with money this week. Looking at coins and their value and working out how to add them up. We decided it was good to start with the highest value coin and work to the lowest.
Here are two websites that will help with learning about money. Have fun!
